Self Improvement Through Reading

Always Be A Student

When you are trying to improve some of your skills such as drawing or become a fabulous fashion designer, it is almost certain you will get there much faster if you work on improving all areas of your life. I believe in being a life-long student because there is always so many new things to learn.

Children are always so happy and in the moment because they enjoy researching, satisfying their curiosity and above all they love learning new skills. The day we stop learning, observing and trying things, we lose that little child inside us that is the source of creativity and creation.

Avoid Creative Blocks

Many creatives like writers, artists and designers often encounter a creative block. It's a feeling that you are stuck, you don't see yourself moving forward, nothing is turning out the way you want or you just simply don't know where to start anymore. Sometimes this happens because we are so focused on creating and we burn out all our inspiration until we feel empty and incompetent. In order to avoid these periods in our creative lives, we need to put the same amount of effort in allowing ourselves to be inspired and learn new things as much as creating.

Always give yourself time to explore, visit new places, watch movies and theater shows, visit museums and above all read. Reading is free, you can do it anywhere and you can read while you are waiting in line, commuting or you can listen to audio books while doing chores.

Favorite Books

I'm a huge book nerd and love to read about everything but topics that I love the most include business (anything from starting one, making it more successful, strategies...), art and fashion books (great for inspiration), brain and neuroscience (always fascinated how much we don't even know about our brain), learning and teaching strategies (how to learn things faster), organization, human spirit, biographies and autobiographies (because you can learn a lot through other people's experiences), Russian classic novels and fantasy fiction.

Here are some of my favorite books:

Shakti Gawain: Creative Visualisation

This book is such a great, inspiring and motivating read. It gives you lots of exercises to implement in everyday life that will help you create the life you want. You can find meditations, affirmation and other different techniques that can help you use your mental energy and improve all areas of your life. Affirmations are such a powerful tool and even though I was a bit skeptic, I can see changes in every aspect of my life since I've started using them. You can use this to boost your creativity and avoid blocks in your work, or for any other area of your life, such as health, relationships or prosperity.

Sophia Amoruso: #Girlboss

If you are interested in business of fashion, or you dream about having your own clothing line or boutique, then this is a great book to read. It shows how much dedication, hard work and passion you need to have a successful fashion business.

I like the fact that Sophia doesn't have a degree in fashion, but is rather a regular girl with a huge passion and willing to work hard. This shows that anyone can make their dreams come true. It's also nice to hear the side of the story no one really talks about-how fashion business is hard and it's not easy to get into it when you are a small designer. It definitely gives a nice overview of what skills you need to be in this kind of business and how much you need to hustle everyday to get what you want.
